What is the best material for sanding snowboards or skii's?
We have three materials to choose from when sanding snowboards or skii's for manufacturers or refurbishers.
Aluminum oxide - Best for economical applications. Good life but will not get you the best performance compared to zirconia and ceramic. This material is for those that don't want to break the bank and just want to get started. Aluminum oxide belts are brown in color and are made on a premium X-weight polyester backing that can be used in both WET and dry applications.
Zirconia - Great middle of the road option and traditionally is what most people order due to this cost effectiveness compared to longevity. Great grindability for skii's and snowboard stock removal. This will last about 3-4 times longer than aluminum oxide belts. Zirconia belts are green in color and are made on a stiff Y-weight polyester backing that can be ran in both WET and DRY applications.
Ceramic - Obviously the most expensive option but will last the absolute longest compared to zirconia and aluminum oxide. These belts will last about 2-3 times longer than zirconia and about 7-8 times longer than aluminum oxide belts when sanding both skii's and snowboards. Ceramic belts are red in color and are made on a Stiff X-weight, polyester backing that can be ran in WET and DRY applications.
WHAT SANDING BELT MATERIAL HELPS LOWER PRODUCTION COSTS?
Ceramic sanding belts are by far the best investment in a sanding belt you can make. Ceramic sanding belts last 2-3X longer than zirconia belts and about 10X longer than aluminum oxide belts! Ceramic sanding belts can withstand more heat, pressure & speed than any zirconia or aluminum oxide belt and will be far more cost effective on a part for part basis. Ceramic grains are intrinsically much denser and harder scientifically which translates to more money in your pocket!
