53" x 110-1/4" Sanding Belt, 2 PACK
53" x 110-1/4" Sanding Belt, 2 PACK
Available in stock (50000)
If your wide belt sander was built in Europe or Asia, its plate probably reads 1350 x 2800 mm, and no inch-sized stock belt will fit it. That metric size converts to 53" x 110-1/4", which is exactly what these belts are: closed-coat aluminum oxide or zirconia on X-weight poly-cotton cloth, cut to the metric machine's true dimensions rather than rounded to the nearest inch.
Two belts to a pack, one grain and one grit per pack, from 36 through 400 grit. Aluminum oxide covers surfacing and finishing on wood and panel products; zirconia handles the calibrating head and heavy hardwood or steel removal. Converted in Anaheim, California, with any other metric or inch size made to order.
- Cut to the metric 1350 x 2800 mm belt size, not rounded to 54 x 110
- Closed-coat aluminum oxide, 36–400 grit, for hardwood, MDF, veneer and aluminum
- Zirconia at 36–120 grit for calibrating heads and glued-up hardwood
- X-weight poly-cotton cloth that tracks steadily on a 1350 mm drum
- Anti-static backing that releases fine panel dust to the collector
- Two belts per pack; converted in Anaheim, California
Which grain should you run on a 1350 mm wide belt sander?
Both grains are available in every grit from 36 to 400, so choose by the head and the material rather than by habit.
- Cloth Closed Coat A/O: aluminum oxide on fully grain-covered X-weight cloth. It is the belt for hardwood, plywood, MDF, particleboard and veneered panels on every head from 80 grit up, and the only grain to run above 120. It also handles aluminum, brass and composites. Closed coat lasts longer and cuts cleaner than open coat on everything except very soft, pitchy softwood, and it is the standard for metal.
- Zirconia: the calibrating grain at 36, 40, 60 or 80 grit. It fractures under load and exposes fresh edges, so a head set for a real depth of cut on oak, beech, maple or glued-up panels keeps its removal rate through the shift. At light pressure it glazes; keep it off the finishing heads and switch to aluminum oxide above 120.
Open coat is not offered in this size. On a metric machine running mixed panel stock, closed coat aluminum oxide plus strong extraction is the right default, with zirconia held for the first head when the stock is hard or glued.
Grit guide for panel calibrating and finishing
| Grit | Use it for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 36–40 | Calibrating rough or glued-up panels | Zirconia; 1/64"–1/32" (0.4–0.8 mm) per pass |
| 60 | Thicknessing, glue-line removal | Zirconia or AO |
| 80–100 | Surfacing after calibration | AO; removes the 60 scratch |
| 120–150 | Pre-finish on veneer, MDF, hardwood | AO on the platen head |
| 180–220 | Final pass before stain or lacquer | Stop at 220 for stain |
| 320–400 | Sealer and primer flatting | Skim passes, light platen pressure |
Never skip more than one grade between heads or passes. Calibrating scratches left under a 150 grit finish show the moment stain or lacquer goes on.
What machines take a 53" x 110-1/4" (1350 x 2800 mm) belt?
- Metric-built 1350 mm wide belt sanders from European and Asian makers, single- and multi-head, whose plate reads 1350 x 2800 mm.
- Calibrating and finishing lines specified in millimetres, in panel, door and furniture plants.
- Metric wide belt sanders set up for aluminum or steel sheet, using closed-coat aluminum oxide or zirconia with a metal-rated collector.
Match both numbers to the plate. 1350 x 2800 mm is 53 x 110-1/4 inches, not 54 x 110; the extra inch of width on a 54-inch belt overhangs a 1350 mm drum and misses the tracking sensor, and most machines accept only about a quarter inch (6 mm) of length variation. Our belts run bi-directionally; inspect the joint tape before mounting. If your plate reads another metric size, we convert custom belts to exact millimetre dimensions in about 3 days.
How to get the most out of it
- Convert the plate, do not round it. Order from the millimetre dimensions on the machine; we cut to the true conversion. A belt an inch too wide will not track.
- Centre the oscillation before feeding stock, and re-check once the belt has warmed.
- Calibrate in light passes. 1/64" to 1/32" (roughly 0.4 to 0.8 mm) on hardwood at 36–60 grit, less at finer grits. Deep passes heat the belt and stall the head.
- Keep the feed up. Slow feed and dwell burn beech, maple and cherry and glaze MDF edges; raise the feed before reaching for a coarser belt.
- Drum for calibrating, platen for finishing. Run 36–80 on the contact drum and 120 and finer on the platen.
- Extract hard and clean the belt. Loading is what ends a wide belt's life; a crepe rubber eraser at light pressure clears packed dust from aluminum oxide.
- Store belts hanging, dry and out of sunlight, and let a cold belt reach shop temperature before mounting.

Use it for / don't use it for
Use it for
- Calibrating and finishing hardwood, plywood, MDF and veneered panels on 1350 mm machines
- Solid-wood doors, glued-up panels and tabletops
- Sealer and primer flatting at 320–400 on a light-pressure platen
- Aluminum and mild steel sheet on a metal-rated wide belt sander
Don't use it for
- Machines plated for 54-inch belts or any other length; 110-1/4 inches is a specific metric conversion
- Zirconia above 120 grit where the finish matters; use aluminum oxide
- Wet sanding on a machine not designed for it
- One collector shared between wood dust and steel dust

Frequently asked questions
My machine plate says 1350 x 2800 mm. Is this the right belt?
Yes. 1350 x 2800 mm converts to 53 x 110-1/4 inches, which is the size we cut these belts to. Do not round up to a 54-inch belt; the extra inch overhangs the drum and misses the tracking sensor. If your plate shows a different metric size, we convert custom belts to exact millimetre dimensions in about 3 days.
Why not just use a 54" x 126" or 54" x 110" belt?
Because neither fits. A 1350 mm drum is 53 inches, so a 54-inch belt overhangs both edges, and most wide belt sanders only accept about a quarter inch of length variation, so 126 inches is far outside range and even a 110-inch belt is a quarter inch short. Order the true conversion, 53" x 110-1/4".
Which grain goes on which head of a metric multi-head machine?
Zirconia at 36 to 80 grit on the calibrating head, where the depth of cut gives it the load it needs to self-sharpen. Closed-coat aluminum oxide on the surfacing and finishing heads from 80 through 400; it cuts cleanly at light platen pressure and leaves the even scratch stain and lacquer need.
How deep a pass can I take at 36 or 40 grit?
Up to about 1/32 inch, roughly 0.8 mm, on hardwood with zirconia, and half that with aluminum oxide or on MDF. Deeper passes heat the belt, load the motor and can cup a glued-up panel. Take more passes rather than deeper ones, and keep the feed speed up so the belt does not dwell.
Can you make other metric belt sizes?
Yes. We convert custom wide belts to any millimetre or inch dimension in about 3 days, in the same closed-coat aluminum oxide and zirconia cloth as this listing. Send the width and length from your machine plate to sales@maverickabrasives.com or call 714-646-3299 and we will quote it.
How many belts come in a pack, and is case pricing available?
Each pack contains two 53" x 110-1/4" belts of one grain and one grit. Panel plants usually order several grits by the case; call 714-646-3299 or email sales@maverickabrasives.com for case pricing. Orders over $200 ship free, and unused belts in original packaging can be returned within 30 days.
